KARATE KID'S STORY:
Honest Abe

Unlike most modern political candidates the one thing Abraham Lincoln did not worry about was his honesty coming back to haunt him.  As with most reputations "Honest Abe" became based solely on his consistent and unwavering regard for the truth.

As a clerk in a small general store, he mistakenly charged a woman customer six cents too much.  Discovering his mistake at the end of the day he immediately walked over three miles in the growing darkness to correct his mistake.  In another instance, he shorted a woman by four ounces on a bag of coffee.  Realizing his mistake, he closed the shop at once and set off in her pursuit to correct his mistake.

In another incident, a book he borrowed was badly damaged by the rain seeping in through his cabin roof.  On returning the book to its owner the man demanded payment of seventy-five cents.  Since Abe had no money he agreed instead to labor for three days to work off the debt.

Ah, if only life was still that simple.  For those with integrity it is.  People are drawn to those with integrity, just as they were to honest Abe.  Chart your course with the compass of integrity.  That way you'll never be lost and people will look to you to lead the way.
